Why Food Lifeline?
“Hunger Doesn’t Have to Happen.”
Shane Stone, owner of Stone’s German Garage is dedicated to helping those in need. As a long-time Seattle resident he is acutely aware of the increasing number of people struggling to have their basic needs met. Many are homeless, battling addiction and/or mental illness. Still more are families, who have fallen on hard times due to unemployment, housing or medical costs and personal tragedy. Thousands of men, women and children in our area do not have food to eat. Food LifeLine has a mission:
“Ending hunger in Western Washington, by mobilizing resources and engaging communities”
Nearly 40% of our country’s food ends up in landfills, millions go hungry. Food Lifeline rescues millions of pounds of this surplus food from farmers, manufacturers, grocery stores, and restaurants. Volunteers sort and repack this food and then distribute it to more than 300 food banks, shelters, and meal programs throughout Western Washington, providing the equivalent of 97,000 meals every day to people in need.
Food Lifeline can create the equivalent of four complete meals for every $1 we give them. **
